14 Elon Musk Quotes That Make You Go ‘Wait, What?

Elon Musk is known for his groundbreaking work in technology and space exploration, but he’s also notorious for making bold, bizarre, and sometimes downright ridiculous statements. Whether on Twitter or in interviews, Musk’s quotes often leave people scratching their heads, wondering if he’s serious or simply trolling. This collection highlights some of Musk’s most outrageous and outlandish quotes—comments that reveal the eccentric side of a tech genius who sometimes just misses the mark.

Feel free to add your favorite Musk x/tweet in the comments.

1. “The coronavirus panic is dumb.”

Because global pandemics are just a walk in the park, right? Judging the intelligence of a global virus is an interesting choice and his childish choice of words speaks perfectly to his worldview. Elon only thinks about how things affect Elon.

2. “Tesla stock price is too high imo.”

Nothing says “responsible CEO” like tanking your own company’s stock. Does he say these kinds of things to seem edgy? To be the “cool CEO? His shareholders and board must’ve had steam coming out of their ears on this day.

3. “I keep forgetting that you’re still alive.”

Musk’s charming response to 81-year-old Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders is one of the sweetest politicians on earth and this kind of rude and dismissive comment is just petty. But, we don’t expect Musk to come up with any clever responses so, this is what we get.

4. “Pronouns suck.”

Ah yes, alienating entire communities in just two words. Efficiency at its finest. Musk is one of those oh-so-intelligent and forward-thinking people who condemn “woke” culture, which is just another way of saying he stomps his feet and throws a fit when someone asks him to consider others.

5. “Eventually, they run out of other people’s money and then they come for you.”

Musk’s hot take on taxing billionaires. Poor billionaires, whatever will they do? Clearly, his concept of money is very self-centered. Exactly where does he think all his money came from? Thin air? Because that’s not how it works.

6. “Does seem at least a little suspicious.”

His contribution to the debunked “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory. Because why let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy? We’re not going to comment on Pizzagate because it’s silly, but this is a fabulous example of Musk furthering harmful ideas.

7. “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job.”

Oh no. Holding head in hands. Woman with tattoos.

Self-awareness level: 0. He seems to think that he has the magic touch like Midas, but he’s actually pretty great at turning gold into garbage. No one wants to be CEO of the multiple companies he’s made a million mistakes with already.

8. “I did stand down. I keep telling you I’m not the CEO of Twitter, my dog is the CEO of Twitter.”

When in doubt, blame the dog. Here’s another attempt from Musk to be funny, but it just comes off as cringe-worthy and awkward. Someone needs to take this man’s phone away.

9. “There is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye.”

Nancy Pelosi.

Oh, look! It’s another post from Musk stirring up drama and propping up false ideas. This was Musk’s response to the attack on Paul Pelosi and a post from Hilary Clinton, promoting baseless rumors. You’re not the witty poster you think you are, Elon.

10. “You don’t need college to learn stuff.”

Says the man with two bachelor’s degrees. Musk loves to let the world know how smart he is, or at least, how smart he thinks he is. But according to him, there’s no reason to pursue higher education! Just buy out a corporation like Tesla and you’re good to go! Listen, you don’t need college to succeed, but learning is never a bad idea.

11. “I’m not sure I want to be me.”

man wondering.

Join the club, Elon. We’re not sure we want you to be you either. This man swings from having a swollen head the size of Texas to acting like a sad little puppy who needs a huge. You’re not fooling anyone you man-baby!

12. “I’m getting very close to exceeding the number of characters allowed in a single tweet.”

Elon Musk.

A riveting insight from the man who bought Twitter. While this is by far not the worst thing he’s ever said, it still rubs us the wrong way and reminds us that not every thought we have is meant to be shared with the world.

13. “My mentality is that of a samurai. I would rather commit seppuku than fail.”

Upset. Shock. Surprise.

Because nothing says “stable leadership” like casual references to ritual suicide. What even is this? It feels disrespectful, racist, unhinged, violent, and completely delusional. Keep this guy away from swords.

14. “I was really a fool here. It was a foolish and perhaps the worst and dumbest post that I’ve ever done.”

Black woman says no.

Musk’s apology for endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory. At least he got one thing right. We didn’t want to display the hateful theory here, but we think this follow-up, weak apology is enough to convey his idiocy concerning the situation.

The Musings of Musk

Elon Musk’s penchant for controversial statements and half-baked ideas makes him a walking PR disaster. Perhaps it’s time for Musk to take a page from his own book and develop a brain-to-tweet filter.

His loose-cannon approach to public discourse often overshadows his decent achievements. It’s a reminder that having a big platform doesn’t always equate to having big wisdom.

Until recently, anti-bullying advocacy has focused primarily on youth. However, adult bullying is on the rise and poses significant risks to our collective mental and physical well-being. As a journalist who has experienced online bullying for years, I sought to better understand the nature and impact of this rise and what, if anything, we can do about it. This article for The Queen Zone results from a series of interviews I conducted with experts in this field.
